Western is offering free star gazing nights three times a week throughout the fall and winter. Following a main presentation, participants will be given a tour of the
observatory, and have the option of being led through related hands-on or computer activities. Presentation topics include:
Life in the Universe, Our Solar System, Stars, Galaxies, Missions to Space, Comets &
Asteroids and the Earth/Moon System. Weather permitting, visitors can also use the observatory's telescopes under the guidance of members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. "Exploring the Stars" will be
offered on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, *October 15 to December 13, and January 14 to April 17*. Two open houses will be held this year as well, on *Friday, October 26 and Friday, November 30*, 6:30

On Sunday, June 8th, 2008, people of all ages and abilities can participate in London's Wheels In Motion event to raise money and support those in our community with spinal cord injury. Enter the 2.5K or 5K and wheel, walk or run. You can also enter a team of five into the fun and exciting Scotiabank Wheelchair Challenge. Teams will compete in a wheelchair relay and gain a better understanding of issues that people living with spinal cord injury face in their day-to-day lives.
Since the inception of Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion in 2003, Canadians have raised more than $7.6 million. These funds have supported more than 700 quality of life projects in communities across Canada to provide solutions for men, women and children with spinal cord injury. Funds raised have also been directed to support research in search of a cure.
The Labatt Blue Bottle Drive is taking place in London for one weekend starting Friday, June 20 through to Sunday, June 22. The event was created to raise funds and awareness for the Military Families Fund, an agile and responsive fund that responds to the special-case needs of the Canadian Forces members and their families. Londoners are being invited to donate the proceeds from their empty bottle returns throughout the weekend and Labatt Blue will match the monies generated, with proceeds to benefit Military Families Fund.
Support people with disabilities in our community by participating in The Independent Living Centre's 5th annual wheel and walkathon on June 21 at Greenway Park. Opening remarks by Hon. Irene Mathyssen, M.P. will be at 12:00 with the walk immediately following. The event will conclude with a fundraising barbeque and prizes for participants!
