Exploring the Stars. October 15, 2007 — December 13, 2008
| Description | Western is offering free star gazing nights three times a week throughout the fall and winter. Following a main presentation, participants will be given a tour of the observatory, and have the option of being led through related hands-on or computer activities. Presentation topics include: Life in the Universe, Our Solar System, Stars, Galaxies, Missions to Space, Comets & Asteroids and the Earth/Moon System. Weather permitting, visitors can also use the observatory's telescopes under the guidance of members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. "Exploring the Stars" will be offered on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, *October 15 to December 13, and January 14 to April 17*. Two open houses will be held this year as well, on *Friday, October 26 and Friday, November 30*, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information or to make reservations, please visit www.astro.uwo.ca/exploringthestars or call 519-661-3183. |

Call for Nominations - Pillar Community Innovation Awards 2008. May 15, 2008 — September 12, 2008
| Description | Share. Inspire. Recognize. The Pillar Community Innovation Awards celebrate the ways in which innovation, leadership and collaboration in the nonprofit sector have made our community better. It is time to shine a light on those who are making a difference in and around our city. If you know of an individual or organization in the London area that has demonstrated dedication, creative solutions or a collaborative spirit, consider nominating them for a Pillar Community Innovation Award. The four award categories are: Community Innovation, Community Leadership, Community Impact, and Community Collaboration. Rick Hansen Wheel's In Motion. June 8, 2008
| Description | On Sunday, June 8th, 2008, people of all ages and abilities can participate in London's Wheels In Motion event to raise money and support those in our community with spinal cord injury. Enter the 2.5K or 5K and wheel, walk or run. You can also enter a team of five into the fun and exciting Scotiabank Wheelchair Challenge. Teams will compete in a wheelchair relay and gain a better understanding of issues that people living with spinal cord injury face in their day-to-day lives. Since the inception of Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion in 2003, Canadians have raised more than $7.6 million. These funds have supported more than 700 quality of life projects in communities across Canada to provide solutions for men, women and children with spinal cord injury. Funds raised have also been directed to support research in search of a cure. |

Labatt Blue Bottle Drive. June 20, 2008 — June 22, 2008
| Description | The Labatt Blue Bottle Drive is taking place in London for one weekend starting Friday, June 20 through to Sunday, June 22. The event was created to raise funds and awareness for the Military Families Fund, an agile and responsive fund that responds to the special-case needs of the Canadian Forces members and their families. Londoners are being invited to donate the proceeds from their empty bottle returns throughout the weekend and Labatt Blue will match the monies generated, with proceeds to benefit Military Families Fund. |
