Exploring the Stars. October 15, 2007 — December 13, 2008
| Description | Western is offering free star gazing nights three times a week throughout the fall and winter. Following a main presentation, participants will be given a tour of the observatory, and have the option of being led through related hands-on or computer activities. Presentation topics include: Life in the Universe, Our Solar System, Stars, Galaxies, Missions to Space, Comets & Asteroids and the Earth/Moon System. Weather permitting, visitors can also use the observatory's telescopes under the guidance of members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. "Exploring the Stars" will be offered on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, *October 15 to December 13, and January 14 to April 17*. Designing the Forest City. March 4, 2008
| Description | London is giving Western Engineering students the opportunity to design projects that may be used in future city developments. The 12th annual Design Competition features ten teams of fourth-year Civil and Environmental Engineering students, who have prepared preliminary designs for three projects already in the city’s plans. The projects include the designing of a new ‘green’ North London Community Recreation Centre and Library, a new bridge to carry a planned extension of Wonderland Rd. S. over the 401 and an upgrade to the Greenway Pollution Control Plant that is expected to accommodate the growing southwestern quadrant of the city. The teams are competing for $3,750 in prize money, to be divided between the top three designs as determined by the panel of judges. Students will present their designs and field questions from the judges at 7 p.m. General public is welcome at evening presentations. |
