In the beginning there were stories. Stories of where the world and humanity came from. These creation stories are more than just literal explanations for how things came to be. They also help us to define how we see our place in the universe. Today, we celebrate the stories of The Creation by reading creation stories from different cultures and by exploring how the modern scientific understanding of our origins can also define how we see ourselves and our place in the universe.
Sometimes the most meaningful experiences of our lives can happen just with a small group of people whom we care about, and who can about us. We can find this intimacy in relationships with family members, but religious community also offers opportunities to form deep human connections. Although the UFL has several kinds of small groups who meet regularly, today’s service will focus on this year’s start of new “Chalice Groups” – groups that each and every member or friend or newcomer is welcome to join!
