This lecture examines the work of Tariq Ramadan, a Swiss academic and
Islamic scholar who has been referred to as today’s “Muslim Martin Luther.” From an interfaith perspective and drawing several parallels between Islamic and Catholic encounters with modernity, Baum compares the debates in the two traditions. He argues that reform and renewal are compatible with the
substance of both Catholic and Muslim traditions.
