The Engaged Volunteer: Appeal to self-interest?. February 19, 2011
| Description | The Engaged Volunteer: Appeal to self-interest? Event Date: February 16, 2011 Many argue that volunteer rates are falling. They complain that people today won’t make commitments to a cause. But what makes a volunteer program successful? Is it participation rates? Is it long-term commitments? Is it the number of walls that were painted? Volunteers also want to know what’s in it for them. Yep, it’s true. But self-interest isn’t the problem. It’s the solution. Join us for a provocative session where we will explore how volunteers' "self-interest" is the solution to finding, keeping and managing volunteers. Together, we'll explore how to use this understanding to: * Create new definitions of success * Increase participation, enthusiasm, commitment and investment among participants and organizations * Develop leadership skills among participants * Learn how to create the kind of "space" where volunteers can experience transformation (and find out what this means) * Understand the 3 stages in the journey of a volunteer and how to design your program to meet people at their highest level of contribution Facilitators: Chris Jarvis & Angela Parker Date: February 16, 2011 1 - 4 PM Location: Stevenson & Hunt Room London Central Library 251 Dundas St., London, ON Level: Intermediate-Advanced Target Audience: Volunteer Managers or Coordinators, Executive Directors, Board Members and/or anyone who wants to learn how to engage their volunteers to a greater level. Investment: $50 for Pillar members $65 for non-members To register: Send an email to Susannah at education@pillarnonprofit.ca Then mail your payment to: Pillar Nonprofit Network 251 Dundas St., London, ON N6A 6H9 Please read Pillar's Professional Development Policy for cancellations or refunds. |
