| Description | Women constitute 61% of university graduates, but women's perspectives account for less than 20% of the commentaries in Canada's largest daily newspapers and on public affairs talk shows. The Informed Opinions project is working to change that. In an engaging, anecdote-packed keynote that's livened with humour and supported by research, longtime Media Action president and former columnist Shari Graydon provides context for why the Informed Opinions project is necessary. This free presentation explores the causes and consequences of the current gender gap and challenges expert women to see themselves as an important part of the solution. The event runs from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. |

The Tale of the Allergist's Wife. January 21, 2011 — January 29, 2011
| Description | The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife by Charles Busch Presented by London Community Players Directed by Barry Tepperman, Produced by Mona Brennan-Coles. In his first play written for a mainstream audience, Busch explores the Upper West Side milieu of aspiring intellectual and middle-aged upper class matron Marjorie Taub, who lives comfortably with her doctor husband Ira in an expensively furnished condo near Zabar’s and spends her days and evenings pursuing culture at various museums and the theatre. Her ongoing effort to improve her mind and soul has brought Marjorie to the conclusion she never will be more than mediocre, a feeling enhanced by her elderly mother’s constant complaints about her shortcomings and her husband’s altruistic dedication to serving the needs of the homeless. Following an emotional outburst (brought about by the death of her adored therapist) and her public breakdown in a Disney, resulting in considerable breakage, Marjorie retires to the safety of her home to wallow in a mid-life crisis. Unexpectedly invading her depression is flamboyant childhood friend Lee who, much like The Man Who Came to Dinner, becomes entrenched in the Taub household as a seemingly permanent guest, not only drawing Marjorie out of her dark mood, but affecting her marriage as well. •General Admission $10 Public Preview Thurs. Jan. 20 at 8pm •Get Tickets! Adults $22.00, Seniors $18.00 (60+), Students $16.00 (18+), Children $5.00 (17 & under) Purchase tickes online or call us at (519) 432-1029 |
